Local Developer Stops Collecting Rent From His Commercial Tenants

In a remarkable display of compassion during the COVID-19 pandemic, Atlanta developer Omar Ali has waived April rent for all commercial tenants at his 1800 Jonesboro Road development in the Lakewood community.

“It was an extremely difficult decision financially, but an easy one from a human standpoint,” Ali shared in a recent interview with “Closer Look” host Rose Scott. The newly opened retail space houses several local small businesses struggling amid the pandemic, despite federal aid programs.

Ali, who faced his own challenges with the Payment Protection Program, made this decision after consulting with his family. His experience highlights both the hurdles small business owners face and the power of community support during unprecedented times.
